After what has been a long, hard couple of months for many of us, you’re probably overdue for a nice relaxing vacation!
Traveling and enjoying some fun in the sun is a much-needed reprieve from the daily grind for many of us, but vacationing can come with its own share of stress. This is especially true if you’re also worried about your health and fitness.
Going on a trip can throw a wrench in your daily routine and make it harder to stay focused on your personal goals. So here are some tips to keep in mind as you’re vacationing this year for staying on track and being healthy – all without compromising that much-needed R&R time.
Living a healthy lifestyle is all about planning ahead, and it applies even if you’re on vacation.
Take some time to map out your healthy meal plan prior to leaving on your trip. Do a little research on the restaurants and food offerings that will be available to you – this’ll give you a good idea the things that you’d really like to try and the things that won’t be as worth it.
You can also make plans to bring some of your own food along to keep some days simple. Make sure that your hotel/AirBNB has accommodations for you to safely enjoy your meal prep or make other arrangements if necessary.
That said, make sure to leave a little bit of room for spontaneity: you are on vacation, after all!
One of the most exciting things about going on vacation is that it gives you a chance to take a break from the responsibilities of your daily life, and this can very often apply to your food choices as well. However, going too overboard with the goodies might set you back in your progress.
So don’t be afraid to enjoy the luxuries and indulgences that come with vacation – but do so responsibly! This can mean setting limits for how much alcohol you let yourself drink per day, minimizing the extra desserts and sugary splurges, whatever you need to do to enjoy your vacation without compromising your health goals in the process.
Traveling doesn’t have to mean throwing your healthy eating to the wayside: it just might look a little different.
You can still go out and enjoy those indulgent restaurant meals. Just be sure to evaluate your meals a little more closely. This can mean watching your portions, making sure that plate is balanced with plenty of vegetables and lean protein, or even just asking for some of the more indulgent ingredients like cheeses and dressings on the side.
One of the best ways to ensure that you’re still staying on track while vacationing is to bring some of your own supplies.
If it’s possible (like on a road trip, for example), bring some of your own prepped meals or meal prep delivery service meals. It’ll give you something reliable to depend on during your vacation, and save you some money along the way – a win-win!
Movement is important, so be sure that you’re allotting some time for exercise during your trip.
Luckily, these physical endeavors can easily become some of the most exciting and memorable parts of your vacation. For example, you can:
Of course, one of the best things about going on vacation is simply the fact that it allows you to recoup from the daily grind. It might be tempting to go to all the delicious restaurants and try everything that your trip’s destination has to offer, but at the end of the day sometimes it’s nice to just simply exist and appreciate the little things.
Take a little bit of time every day to simply enjoy your natural surroundings. Spend quality bonding time with your loved ones, enjoy the views, relax in the sun, and simply enjoy activities that focus on being in the moment. It’ll be good for your body and your soul.
Going on vacation is one of the things that makes life worth living, but you don’t have to throw your own goals to the wayside to make it happen. Plan ahead, give yourself some grace, and enjoy your vacation to its fullest!
